#10 ProjectX

Free
Open Source
Windows
Online

ProjectX is a tool to process MPEG2 transport stream files that allows you to demultiplex, edit and repair these files. The hard part of demultiplexing is locating packets in the file. A lot of tools solve that part by breaking the file into blocks and reassembling them when they have all packets. This is slow, especially if you want to skip parts of the stream (like commercials). It does the hard work before it ever breaks the file up into blocks. Instead of finding packets inside long blocks, it constructs a graph of dependencies between the streams inside your file.

It then traverses this graph, looking for packets that are in this graph. This allows it to skip over parts of the stream you don’t want without un-assembling it first. Project X is free multiplexing, demultiplexing, editing, and repairing tool for MPEG2, MPEG TS, and Digital TV Transport streams. It is based on a mpeg2/ts file decoder library (libavcodec) and depends on the packages of mplayer, so it is able to read incomplete/corrupted streams due to errors or unsupported features, even if your hard drive doesn’t want to do so.

The application lets users fix the timing of notes by nudging them forward or backward by a tiny fraction of a second, as well as moving them up or down. It also lets them change their velocity or density, making tweaks to individual instruments or the overall piece. The MIDI files can be edited in 10 different ways using the built-in functions, including creating stem events; editing note properties; drawing in notes; stretch/squeeze events; deleting events; changing instrument log; changing tempo; changing time signature; changing tempo signatures; change parts. OptimizeVideo is software that also allows you to add notes to the MIDI file and create a custom drum track for playback. When uploading a video, encoding takes a bit of finesse. It involves setting the right video format and bitrate, cropping the video properly, and choosing the right encoder settings. It ensures that all your videos look great by providing brand-specific encoding guidelines and creating a video-specific tool that makes it easy to quickly optimize your videos.

The special mode lets you adjust resolution and bitrate. In optimizing a video, it first analyzes the file to determine if a change in resolution is needed. If one is, it analyzes and decodes the frame-by-frame to determine the best resolution and bitrate for the video. Using that information, optimize video automatically chooses the best resolution and bitrate for the uploaded file, so you don’t have to. When uploading a video to Drive, any changes to cropping will be detected in your original file, so you have to make them manually.
